FAQs - Restoring efficiency and reducing emissions
How does it work?
We generate oxyhydrogen on demand, and feed small but controlled amount into the engine via the air intake.
The engine is then taken through a cycle of revs, with the cleaning process lasting around 45 to 60 minutes per vehicle.
An average HGV should be cleaned four times per year to maximise the engines efficiency & power.
Do you burn the carbon off?
Our system is different to others, as we remove the carbon at a molecular level, with the cylinder head temperature only increasing by an average of 9% at idle. The cleaning process is an annual cycle, not a one time clean.
Do you get the same reductions on HVO fuelled vehicles?
Short answer yes! Our data shows HVO fuelled HGVs produce very similar levels of CO2% emissions at the tailpipe. HVO still burns, so carbon build-up still happens inside the engine and on parts. Engine Carbon Clean works on any ICE using any fuel, including HVO, CNG and other Biofuels.
What sort of ROI should I expect?
It’s different for each vehicle, and each customer! Please use our calculator as an example of fuel and carbon savings. However, if we take a 70k mile per year HGV, reaching 9 MPG and a fuel price of £1.10 pre litre, the annual savings would be around £2,917 or 7.16 tonnes per vehicle – this represents around 200% ROI.
What age of vehicle should I start cleaning?
There are two ways to approach this, first, if your fleet is over two to three years old with around 120k miles, then the Engine Carbon Clean would be used to remove the carbon build-up first and then maintains the engines efficiency once the carbon build-up has been removed, second, for newer vehicles the process is used to ensure the carbon build-up doesn’t happen in the first place. As soon as any combustible fuel is burned, carbon build-up occurs. So, the sooner the better!
